Villa energy optimisation

Villa energy saving: solar panels are only part of the answer

Your pool, hot water, air conditioning and electric car decide most of your bill. We look at what your villa actually consumes — and what can realistically be improved.

Plenty of villas on the Costa Blanca already have solar panels and still get uncomfortable electricity bills. Usually the panels are not the problem: the timing and the big loads are.

Costas Solar works on the heavy consumers of a villa — the pool filtration pump, pool heating, domestic hot water, EV charging and the existing PV installation itself.

Pool energy consumption: the load nobody checks

An old fixed-speed filtration pump runs for many hours a day, always at full power. On most villas it is one of the largest continuous electricity consumers — and it is rarely reviewed.

A fixed-speed pump only knows one setting: maximum. Filtration, however, does not need maximum flow for every running hour — for much of the cycle a lower flow over a longer period does the same job.

A variable-speed pump lets us match the working speed to the real pool volume and the existing pipework, then rebuild the filtration schedule. Where PV is installed, we move the cycle into solar production hours so your own energy covers it.

What we do

  • Replace the old fixed-speed pump with a variable-speed pool pump.
  • Optimise filtration speed and actual operating hours.
  • Schedule filtration during solar production hours where PV is installed.
  • Configure and commission the new pump, leaving the programme ready to run.
Offer

Variable-speed pool pump + installation + configuration

from €790

Indicative price depending on equipment and the condition of the existing plant room. We confirm the final price once we have seen the installation.

We do not promise a fixed percentage saving. Actual savings depend on the existing pump, the operating hours and your pool's real requirements.

Other solutions for your villa

Each service has its own page with technical detail, indicative pricing and frequently asked questions.

Pool heat pump

Efficient inverter pool heating to extend the swimming season, using daytime solar production wherever the installation allows it.

EV charger

Home charging for your electric car, with the option of charging from your own solar production instead of buying from the grid.

Air source heat pump

Efficient heating, cooling and domestic hot water from one system, designed to work alongside your PV installation.

Hot water and solar energy

In many villas the existing electric water heater can be optimised without replacing it. The appliance is usually fine — the heating hour is the problem.

A tank that heats overnight is heating on grid electricity. Moved to midday, the same energy can often be covered by the roof.

  • Move water heating to appropriate daytime hours.
  • Use the PV production that is actually available.
  • Smart timing or control where it is technically sensible.

Not every water heater can communicate directly with a solar inverter. We check yours before proposing anything.

Optimising an existing solar system

We also work with owners whose PV was installed by another company. You do not need to change installer to have the system reviewed.

We compare production against consumption, measure how much is genuinely self-consumed, check whether the villa still imports from the grid while the panels are producing, and whether too much is being exported unnecessarily.

  • Real production versus household consumption.
  • Self-consumption level and avoidable grid import during solar hours.
  • Export volumes and flexible loads that can be moved into the middle of the day.
  • Monitoring so performance stays visible over time.
  • Expansion of the array only where it is economically justified.

Having solar panels is not enough — the goal is to use as much of your own production as is economically practical.

Where we start

Replacing equipment is not always necessary. In many cases changing schedules or the control strategy is enough to see a difference.

So we can give you a useful answer without a site visit first, send us:

  • A photo of the relevant equipment (pool pump, water heater, inverter, consumer unit).
  • A recent electricity bill.
  • A short description of what you want to improve.
