How battery storage works with your solar system

A home battery stores excess solar energy that your panels produce during the day but your villa doesn't immediately consume. Without a battery, this surplus is exported to the grid at a low compensation rate (currently around €0.05–0.08/kWh in Spain), while you buy electricity back at €0.15–0.30/kWh during evenings and nights. A battery captures that surplus and releases it when you need it — typically from sunset through the night and early morning. This dramatically increases your self-consumption ratio from a typical 30–40% (solar only) to 70–90% (solar plus battery). For a villa consuming 12,000 kWh per year, that difference can mean an additional €800–€1,500 in annual savings. Choosing the right battery size for your villa

Battery sizing depends on your evening and overnight consumption, not your total daily usage. A typical villa in Costa Blanca uses 8–15 kWh between sunset and sunrise. We analyse your smart meter data or estimate from your bills to determine the optimal battery capacity. A 5 kWh battery suits smaller villas with moderate evening consumption. A 10 kWh battery covers most standard villas with pool and AC. A 15–20 kWh battery is recommended for large villas with high overnight consumption, multiple AC units, or EV charging.
